Friends and streaks

Practice with people you like, and keep coming back

TalkYouApp keeps the people you meet. Follow someone after a good conversation, send them messages, call them one-to-one, or invite them into a room. Every day you spend time in a room grows a streak with its own small forest. Friends, messages, calls and streaks are all free.

Most people don't give up on a language because it's hard. They give up because practice has no rhythm. On TalkYouApp the rhythm comes from people: the friend you call on Tuesdays, the group that meets on Sundays, and a streak that grows every day you spend time in a room.

An account is required before joining any live room, including from a direct room link.

Friends and streaks at a glance

01

Follow, then become friends

Follow someone after a good conversation. When you follow each other, you're friends on TalkYouApp.

02

Message and call

Keep talking after the room ends with direct messages, or call a friend one-to-one.

03

A streak that grows a forest

Every day you spend in a room adds to your streak, and a little forest grows along with it.

Following and friends

Enjoyed a conversation? Follow that person. Each profile decides whether follows are accepted straight away or need approval, so nobody ends up followed by people they don't want. When two people follow each other, TalkYouApp treats them as friends.

Friends can call each other, invite each other into friends-only rooms, and see when the other is online, if they choose to share that. Your history keeps the rooms you joined and the people you talked with, so last week's great conversation partner is always easy to find again.

  • Mutual follows become friends

  • History of the people you've practiced with

Messages that carry the conversation

Direct messages work like a good chat app: photos, GIFs, reactions, replies and read receipts. It is where plans get made ("same time tomorrow?"), where the word you forgot during the call finally gets typed, and where a new friendship quietly turns into a practice habit.

You stay in charge of your inbox. Privacy settings decide who may message you, who may call you, who may invite you to rooms and whether people see your online status and last seen.

One-to-one calls

Some days a full room is too much and you just want to practice with one person. Call a friend directly and talk for as long as you both like. By default only friends can call you, and you can change that in your settings.

Calls pair well with rooms. Meet people in a room, get to know them, then set up a regular call with the one you practice best with.

Your streak, and the forest that grows with it

Every day you spend time in a voice room counts toward your streak. The day follows your own time zone, so midnight means your midnight. As the streak grows, a small forest grows with it, and its landscape changes as the days add up.

If your streak is at risk, TalkYouApp can remind you to water your forest before the day ends. Plus includes two streak shields per subscription month, each covering a day you miss. You can share a streak card with a link, and your profile shows your current and longest streak unless you hide it.

Why people beat willpower

A streak is a nudge; people are the reason you show up. It's easy to skip practice when nobody notices. It's much harder when a friend is waiting for your call or a group is meeting at eight. That's why TalkYouApp puts friends, groups and meetups right next to the rooms instead of hiding them in a separate app.

What each connection unlocks

Following, friendship and group membership are separate things here, and each one opens a different door.

TalkYouApp is one. It has live voice rooms with real people, plus friends, direct messages, one-to-one calls, groups and a daily streak, all free.

What counts toward my streak?

Spending time in a voice room that day. The day boundary follows your own time zone.

Can I hide my streak?

Yes. Public profiles show your current and longest streak unless you turn streak sharing off, and private profiles show it only to accepted followers.

You decide in your privacy settings. By default only friends can call you, and you can limit who may message you or invite you to rooms.

How do I practice with the same person every week?

Follow each other, then call or invite them to a friends-only room. For a bigger circle, start a group and plan meetups.
