Women-only rooms

Rooms where women practice English with other women

Any TalkYouApp member can open a room limited to women, or to men. The rule is checked before anyone enters, including people arriving from a shared link, and it reads the gender on the member's own profile rather than verifying identity. Owners and moderators can mute or remove people, and nothing is recorded.

Some women would rather practice speaking with other women, especially while a new language still feels exposed. On TalkYouApp, anyone opening a room can limit it to women. The rule is checked before anyone joins, a shared link can't get around it, and the usual safety tools still apply: owners and moderators, blocking and reporting.

An account is required before joining any live room, including from a direct room link.

Why women-only rooms exist

Speaking a language you're still learning takes nerve. For many women it takes more of it in a room full of men they don't know, and some have had unwanted messages on language apps before. A women-only room takes that worry off the table so the conversation can be about the language, the people and whatever the topic is tonight.

It is a choice, not a rule for everyone. Plenty of rooms are mixed and friendly. Women-only rooms are there for the times you want them, and anyone can open one.

How the rule works

When you create a room, you can set it to Women only (or Men only). Before anyone enters, TalkYouApp checks the gender on their profile. If it doesn't match the room, they can't come in, whether they arrived from the lobby, a friend's invite or a shared room link. The check runs before an invite is used, so a person who is turned away doesn't use up anyone's link.

To be clear about what this is: profiles are filled in by their owners, and this isn't ID verification. It's a clear rule, checked every single time, with TalkYouApp moderators behind it who can correct a profile that has been set up to get around it.

  • Women only or Men only, chosen by the room owner
  • Checked before entry, every time
  • Works for lobby joins, invites and room links
  • Moderators can correct a misleading profile

Safety tools in every room

Every room has an owner, and owners can add co-owners and moderators. Between them they can mute someone, stop them from typing in the chat, turn off their camera or remove them from the room, on the spot and without waiting for anyone.

You can block anyone, report a person, a room or a message, and choose in your privacy settings who may message you, call you or invite you to a room. Nothing said in a room is recorded, and the minimum age on TalkYouApp is 13.

  • Owners, co-owners and room moderators
  • Mute, chat block, camera off and remove
  • Block and report from any profile or message
  • Privacy settings for messages, calls and invites

Opening a women-only room that people join

Give the room a clear, warm title that says who it's for and what you'll talk about, such as "Women's English chat, B1: travel stories". Set the level honestly so nobody feels lost. Share the room link with friends; the check at the door still applies to everyone who uses it.

If you find a few women you love practicing with, keep them. Follow each other, and for a steady circle start a language group where you approve every new member yourself, then plan meetups at a time that suits you all.

Who can enter a room

Every room has a door setting, chosen when it is created. This is what each one means for the people trying to come in.

Practical answers

Questions about women-only rooms

Can I create a women-only English speaking room?

Yes. Any member can set a new room to Women only. Only members whose profile says they are a woman can join it.

Can a man get in with a shared link?

No. The rule is checked before entry for everyone, including people who use a direct room link or an invite.

Is gender verified?

No. It comes from the member's profile. TalkYouApp moderators can correct a profile that is set up to get around the rule, and rule-breakers lose access.

Are there men-only rooms too?

Yes. A room can be limited to men in exactly the same way.

What if someone makes me uncomfortable?

Leave, block them and report them. Room owners and moderators can remove people on the spot, and reports reach TalkYouApp's moderators.

Are women-only rooms free?

Yes. They're part of the free room experience. You only need a free account.
