Free inside rooms
Use YouTube Shadowing in the Free room experience without a paid plan, credit balance or payment method.
YouTube Shadowing on TalkYouApp turns a YouTube video into listen-and-repeat practice. Inside a room you open Shadow, get a timed English transcript, then loop one line, slow it down and say it with the speaker. It is free, needs no payment method, and never records or grades your voice.
Turn a shared YouTube video into focused English shadowing practice without leaving your TalkYouApp room. Search for a video or paste a YouTube link, open Shadow and work through a timed English transcript one short segment at a time. YouTube Shadowing is included with Free and needs no paid allowance.
An account is required before joining any live room, including from a direct room link.

Shadowing is a listen-and-repeat practice method. You listen closely to a short piece of natural speech, then imitate its words, rhythm, stress and pauses as accurately as you can. The goal is not to memorize an entire video. It is to notice how English sounds in motion and make your own speech follow that pattern.
YouTube can provide a wide range of real voices and topics, but ordinary playback makes repetition awkward. TalkYouApp's YouTube Shadowing view divides an available English transcript into timed segments, keeps the active words connected to the video and gives the person sharing the video focused playback controls. That makes English shadowing practice easier to repeat without constantly dragging a video timeline.
YouTube Shadowing belongs to the signed-in room experience. Join a room, open the YouTube area and search by topic or paste a supported YouTube link. When the video is ready, select Shadow to open the English transcript over the shared player. The video sharer can choose a segment, play or pause it, repeat it in a loop and adjust the playback speed.
A shared room keeps the practice social without turning the exercise into a public broadcast page. Other room participants can listen to the shared video and follow its transcript, while the person who shared that video owns its playback controls. If someone wants independent control, they can start their own video share inside the room.
Start by playing a short segment once without speaking. Check that you understand the main idea. Play it again and speak just after the original voice. When that feels comfortable, try to begin almost with the speaker. Keep the line short enough that you can pay attention to both pronunciation and meaning.
Use the timed transcript as a guide, not as a script to read mechanically. Look away for one repetition, listen for the speaker's strongest syllables and copy the shape of the sentence. Then return to the words and check what you missed. Several careful repetitions of one line usually create a clearer practice goal than rushing through an entire video.
Clear conversational English is often the easiest place to begin. Interviews, short explanations, everyday dialogue and focused learning videos usually provide manageable phrases. Beginners can choose a slower speaker and a familiar topic. Intermediate learners can move toward natural conversations with more linking, reductions and varied pacing.
Not every YouTube video can be used. The video must be available in the embedded player and TalkYouApp must be able to prepare a reliable English transcript. Private, age-restricted, members-only, premium-only and live videos may be unavailable, and some creators do not allow embedded playback. If a transcript cannot be prepared, choose another English video from search or the Shadow recommendations.
YouTube Shadowing is part of the Free room experience. It does not require Plus, it does not consume a paid balance and it does not ask for a payment method. An account is still required because the feature runs inside a TalkYouApp room rather than on an anonymous public video page.
Shadowing is a self-directed listening and speaking tool. It does not record or score your pronunciation and it does not certify a CEFR level. Use it to build repetition, notice natural speech and prepare phrases that you can later use in a live English conversation. Plus is a separate option for premium room appearances and account benefits.
A useful session can be ten focused minutes. Choose one video, work through a small number of sentences and repeat each sentence until its rhythm feels less unfamiliar. Save one expression or pronunciation pattern, then use it in the room conversation. The combination of listening, imitation and real use makes the practice easier to remember.
Return to the same clip on another day before increasing the difficulty. Familiar material helps you hear details that were hidden during the first session. When a clip becomes comfortable at a slower speed, return to normal speed. Progress comes from clearer attention and consistent repetition, not from collecting the largest possible number of videos.
